RO replacement filters: a compatibility checklist
Check RO filter sizes, connections, membrane ratings and maintenance requirements before ordering replacement cartridges or a filter set.
Identify the system before buying
Start with the system model and the labels on the existing cartridges. Photograph the connections and note the order of the stages. Two systems described as six-stage RO can use different cartridge shapes, fittings or membranes.
A replacement set is convenient only when every included component matches your system. If one component is uncertain, ask for confirmation before ordering the set.
Match cartridges and connections
- Check cartridge length and diameter, not only the nominal housing size.
- Distinguish an insert cartridge in a reusable housing from a sealed inline cartridge.
- Confirm connection type, tube size, flow direction and the available installation space.
- Match the filter media and intended treatment role to the manufacturer's requirements.
- Check the condition and correct size of housing seals; confirm which parts are included in the quotation.
A membrane needs more than a GPD match
Record the membrane model, dimensions and nominal GPD rating. Ask whether it matches the housing, inlet conditions, pump and flow restrictor in your existing system. Changing capacity can require other changes; a higher GPD number alone does not confirm compatibility.
Do not choose a membrane from appearance alone. If labels are missing, provide the system details for a compatibility check.
When should filters be changed?
Use the equipment manufacturer's schedule and condition criteria. Inlet water, consumption and operating conditions affect maintenance needs. Reduced flow or changed taste can justify a service check, but neither is a complete water-quality test.
Follow the manufacturer's isolation, depressurisation, hygiene, flushing and leak-check instructions. Arrange qualified installation or servicing if you cannot safely identify or service the equipment.
What to include in your request
- System model and photos of cartridge and membrane labels.
- Measured cartridge sizes and connection details.
- Which components you need and the last service information if known.
- Delivery location and whether installation or servicing is also required.
